Old sand stone temples with very man-like carvings and painting
on the walls reflect the hiding secret spiritual strength of this
ancient city. Mrauk U was the royal capital and trading port of
Rakhine State dated 14th to 18th century. To reach this archaeological
site, a 6 hours boat trip from Sittwe on the Kaladan river and
through a maze creeks is necessary. Villages of different ethnic
groups (Chin, Mro, and Thet) around Mrauk U are also fascinating
places to visit. |

Cool weather, trace of the Golden Triangle area, shifting fields
and huts on the mountain slopes, and diverse ethnic groups in
their exotic traditional costumes, are the main attraction of
this charming town. For adventure lovers, Kengtung offers the
best trekking trip to nearby mountains to visit the villages
of different tribes. Kengtung town itself is enchanting with
its old Eastern Shan style monasteries.

Golden Rock, locally called Kyaikhtiyo, is located high on a
mountain in Mon State. After 4hours drive from Yangon, take
45 minutes open truck up hill, then an hour walk up together
with the native pilgrims, you will get to this unusual Pagoda
site.

Monywa is located on the east bank of the Chindwin river. The
journey to Monywa takes 3and a half hours drive from Mandalay
via Sagaing. Cross the Chindwin river by ferry, get in an old
willy jeep, head up to Phowindaung mountain caves and look at
the amazing stone carving and mural paintings. The very colorful
Thanbodday pagoda is also a major attraction of Monywa.

Pha-an is the capital city of Karen State. It is located 270 km
east of Yangon. Fifty percent of the region is covered by forests
where the world famous teak grow. Limestone hills with numerous
caves are the natural attractions for the sightseers. Mt. Zwekabin,
the most significant natural hill embedded with 1,000 Sal trees
together with a 1,000 seated Buddha images underneath each Sal
tree is the Landmark of Pha-an. The Saddan immense limestone cave
and the Kawtgoon cave decorated with 7th century artwork are the
wonders of this place. |

Mawlamyaing is the capital of Mon State. It is located 290 km
south east of Yangon. The oldest Baptist church of the country
can be seen in this charming town. Kyaikthanlan pagoda on the
hill top and 150 years old Queen Seindon Monastery are the major
sites of Mawlamyaing. The world's largest reclining Buddha image
in Mudon is 600 foot-long and constitutes 182 compartments. Thanbyuzayat
Second World War Memorial Cemetery, Setse beach, and Kyaik Khami
Yay-leh pagoda are other interesting places to visit. |
